The Dual Role of Wives in the Perspective of the Bugis Community of Bone Regency with a Sharia Economic Approach

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe the concept of
women from the Bugis community's perspective, to delineate
the dual role of wives from the Bugis community's perspective,
and to depict the Sharia economic viewpoint on the dual role of
wives from the Bugis community's perspective. The research
type is field research employing a qualitative descriptive
approach. The data collection techniques involve observation,
interviews, and documentation. The research subjects are
community figures, cultural experts, religious figures,
bureaucrats, women's organization leaders, husbands of wives
with dual roles, and wives with dual roles in Bone Regency. The
results show that: (1) The concept of women in the Bugis
community is characterized as Malebbi' women, which can be
interpreted as "noble." The position or status of Bugis women is
situated within the concept of "ampe" or "pengadereng." (2) The
dual role of wives from the Bugis community's perspective is
delineated through the presence of female rulers in Bugis
kingdom history, explaining that culture does not categorize
roles in the public and domestic sectors, which creates a gap
between women and men. Thus, it can be said that patriarchy,
which is still adhered to by some Bugis community members, is
not a cultural legacy of the Bugis community itself. (3) The dual
