Abstract

Nowadays, learning Arabic, especially for non-speakers, is
still not said to be successful. This happens because of the
teacher's lack of understanding about the characteristics of the
Arabic language itself, where Arabic, like other languages, has
its own characteristics which cause teachers to teach Arabic like
the speakers' native language. Even though the character of the
language being taught is certainly different, it is important to
teach Arabic through understanding its characteristics.
This research uses a qualitative method with a literature
review approach, the data sources for this research come from
books, journals and articles related to the study. Then it is
studied and analyzed to obtain data that is appropriate to the
topic of discussion.
The results of this research show that in general there are 2
characteristics of the Arabic language, namely universal and
systemic. Understanding of Arabic language teachers,
especially systemic characteristics, is very necessary so that they
can adapt Arabic language learning strategies and techniques
which include aspects of letters, sounds, meanings and
sentences
