Abstract

This research aims to provide an overview of the character of students at Ansharussunnah Islamic Boarding School, analyze the role of mentor communication in enhancing students' character, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors faced by mentors in this process. The research method employed is qualitative, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation over a period of two months at Ansharussunnah Islamic Boarding School, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi. The findings reveal that mentor communication plays a crucial role in shaping students' character through both verbal communication, such as religious lectures and etiquette training, and nonverbal communication, demonstrated through mentors' exemplary behavior. Supporting factors include the cultivation of etiquette, religious lectures on etiquette, and healthcare services, while inhibiting factors encompass involuntary enrollment, peer influence among students with similar characteristics leading to conflicts, external influences, and limited mentorship and financial resources. The conclusions drawn from this research underscore the significance of mentor communication in character development among students and propose recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of character building in Islamic boarding schools
