THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (PAI) LEARNING

Abstract

As many as 49.9 percent of the Indonesian population uses
social media, making the learning process, especially in Islamic
Religious Education (PAI), have to switch to social media. The
increasingly rapid development of technology in the 4.0 era
requires educators to be able to utilize technology in the
teaching and learning process. Such as learning via Instagram
with features that are used as innovative learning media so that
learning Islamic religious education becomes more interesting
because it presents material with unusual media and methods.
This needs to be done because looking at the condition of
students, sometimes they get bored of learning when the
learning method is monotonous using only lectures and
discussions. Therefore, the author examines the role of social
media in PAI learning through library research methods,
namely utilizing literature studies from various relevant sources
such as scientific articles, trusted websites, and various
supporting documents obtained indirectly. Based on the studies
that have been carried out, the results show that PAI learning
using social media is very helpful in the teaching and learning
process for both teachers and students because they can learn
in unlimited time and place, make it easier to communicate and
obtain information, and create learning media that interesting
and not boring. So that students are enthusiastic about learning
and more innovative. However, it is important to pay attention
when learning shifts through social media in order to better
control and supervise students so that they make the best use of
social media in learning so as not to fall into negative things
such as being easily provoked into cheating in doing exam
assignments by cheating on the internet.
