Abstract

The development of character education is part of the development of good morals according to the guidance of the Qur'an and Sunnah and character building is closely related to morality. The purpose of this research. To know the development of character education, to know the role of Islamic boarding schools in fostering character education and to find out the inhibiting factors in fostering character education in Muhammadiyah Islamic boarding schools. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The data sources of this research are primary data and secondary data. Data collection methods used are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data processing and analysis techniques were carried out in four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that, 1) The development of character education for the Muhammadiyah Al-Mujahidin Islamic Boarding School in Balikpapan City has several things, namely the existence of good morals that can provide good character according to the guidance of the Qur'an and Sunnah. 2) The role of pesantren in fostering character education for Santri at the Muhammadiyah Al-Mujahidin Islamic Boarding School in Balikpapan can be seen from several things, namely the students can be seen from the behavior or character of the ustadz, ustadzah, kyai, leaders and coaches. 3) Inhibiting Factors in the Guidance of Santri Character Education at Al-Mujahidin Islamic Boarding School, namely the lazy nature of students, lack of motivation from students, different characters and different habits of students, and the difficulty of adjusting to the life of Islamic boarding schools due to differences in habits and backgrounds of students different ones.
